The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong. It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees. It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,200. The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.6 billion.

The School of Accounting and Finance is the longest established accounting school in Hong Kong with over 80 full-time academic and teaching staff in the areas of accounting, finance, economics, and law. The School has adequate resources to support a variety of research interests and activities, and has comparative advantage in promoting cross-disciplinary research that is needed in the modern business world. The School has maintained an excellent network with overseas and Chinese Mainland institutions for collaborative work.

PolyU is one of the world’s leading universities which ranked 66th in the QS World University Rankings 2022. The research of our Faculty of Business has been ranked 59th in the world (The UTD Top 100 Worldwide Business School Rankings based on research contributions for the period 2016-2020). The School has maintained an excellent network with overseas and Chinese Mainland institutions for collaborative work. During the last few years, faculty members were successful in publishing their research papers in top-tier refereed journals, including Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Financial Economics, European Economic Review and Canadian Journal of Economics.

Duties

The appointees will be required to:

(a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;

(b) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;

(c) supervise student projects; and

(d) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of the School or her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a) have a doctoral degree in Economics, or a related discipline whose research interests focus on international economics, development economics, applied economics or applied econometrics;

(b) be proficient in STATA programming;

(c) have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;

(d) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and

(e) have good communication skills and excellent command of English.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for three years initially, with possibility of extension for another three years. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
