The Federal Reserve Board, located in Washington, DC, is seeking an Economist for the Consumer & Community Research group. The Economist will play a significant role in contributing to a large annual consumer survey (the Survey of Household Economics and Decision-making). In addition, the Economist will contribute to the research and analysis of the Division of Consumer and Community Affairs to better understand the financial conditions of communities and the consumers therein. This may include research on community development efforts designed to improve financial conditions, particularly in predominately low- and moderate-income communities.

The position requires a Ph.D. in economics, consumer finance, public policy, or related fields, or equivalent experience and credentials. Expertise related to survey methodology or survey administration is strongly preferred. Interest and/or expertise related to low- and moderate-income communities and individuals is important. The preferred candidate must also demonstrate strong analytical abilities, familiarity with relevant data sources, excellent communication skills, and sensitivity to the Board’s priorities. Relevant research areas would include consumer finance, access and cost of housing, economic geography, as well as racial/ethnic, gender, rural, or other economic disparities.
