Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Applied Economics Office (AEO) of the National Institute of Standards of Technology (NIST) anticipates the need for an economist. The position would be supported through the NIST Professional Research Experience Program (https://www.nist.gov/iaao/academic-affairs-office/nist-professional-research-experience-program-prep).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: research; publishing within refereed journals and technical research series; developing draft standards; designing decision-support software; presenting research at professional conferences. We desire an applicant with a strong background in at least two of the following areas—microeconomics, econometrics, statistics, regional modeling, quantitative analysis, life-cycle assessment, benefit-cost analysis, simulation modeling, and survey methods. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills are essential.

The AEO (https://www.nist.gov/el/applied-economics-office), a part of the Engineering Laboratory (EL) at NIST, provides information to decision makers in the public and private sectors who require advancements in measurement science in the areas of sustainability, energy conservation, community disaster resilience, structure and wildland fire, construction, manufacturing, and safety. AEO’s research is interdisciplinary and collaborative across EL. The AEO delivers high quality research and tool development that informs and assists stakeholders in their decision-making processes.
