Full Text of JOE Listing:

The FDA anticipates openings for economists at the GS-12 to GS-13 level on the Economics Staff in the Office of the Commissioner. Our staff is responsible for economic analyses of human and animal drugs, medical and radiological devices, biological products, tobacco, and food safety and nutrition. This position requires U.S. citizenship. Our offices are located just outside of Washington DC. We offer workplace flexibilities and a family-friendly environment.

Economists on our staff evaluate the benefits and costs of FDA regulations; perform quantitative, statistical, and risk analyses; and conduct mission-oriented independent research. This position requires creativity, the ability to make use of scarce data, an interest in public health policy, and the ability to explain basic and advanced economic concepts to non-economists. The best candidates can conduct applied economic analyses, demonstrate excellent writing skills, efficiently manage multiple projects, and work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment. We welcome all candidates with expertise in applied microeconomics or regulatory economics. Initial interviews will be conducted at the 2020 AEA meeting.

To apply, please submit a cover letter, a CV, transcripts, three letters of recommendation, a writing sample, and a 200-400-word statement of interest by December 1, 2019. Send questions via email to: EconomicsRecruiting@fda.hhs.gov.
