Principal Duties: The position will help lead the Department’s applied research and engagement efforts in agricultural policy. Specifically, the individual will analyze agricultural policy and its effects in areas such as crop insurance, commodity programs, conservation programs, and trade policy for producers in Indiana and beyond. The candidate’s applied research program will contribute to nationally recognized outreach and academic research programs. They will develop a reputation as a key resource for policymakers, producers, industry, and taxpayers in analyzing the consequences of proposed policy alternatives. The individual will also contribute to teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. Finally, opportunities will exist to work with the Department’s many centers of excellence including the Center for Commercial Agriculture, the Global Trade Analysis Project, and the Center for Food and Agricultural Business. This is an academic year appointment.

Qualifications: The candidate should have a PhD in economics, agricultural economics, agribusiness or a related field. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated expertise and/or strong interest in conducting economic policy analysis, commodity policy analysis, trade policy analysis and/or natural resource policy analysis.

A successful candidate should have experience or aptitude and desire to deliver outreach programs to policy makers and producers; develop collaborative solutions with government agencies; engage with policy makers, producer groups, and other influential policy related groups. Additionally, they will have competencies in working collaboratively, communicating orally to diverse audiences, and writing for policy-making and academic audiences.

The Department: Agricultural Economics at Purdue has a rich tradition of providing research-based contributions to public policy debates surrounding agricultural markets and policy. The CWUR World University Rankings recently ranked the department as #4 in the world among departments focusing on agricultural economics and policy. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to Purdue’s mission surrounding multidisciplinary research to identify and address pressing issues facing Indiana and the world.
