The primary goal this position is to promote in-depth social science research collaborations with government agencies—including Ministries of Agriculture, Health, and Finance—in strategic geographies. In collaboration with Professor Edward Miguel, the Director of Research, and CEGA co-investigators, the postdoc will conceptualize and develop demand-driven research studies implemented in close cooperation with government partners in low- and middle-income countries. S/he will lead partnership development and consult with government stakeholders to identify academic research projects that can be implemented by CEGA faculty members, postdocs, and doctoral students. Studies will prioritize empirical social science research methods on topics that are likely to produce downstream improvements in public policy, leveraging administrative data provided by government partners. They will also advise government stakeholders on how to improve the quality of their data, incorporate research activities into programming, and use evidence in planning. Qualifications:
• PhD in Economics, Political Science, Business, related field
• Experience conducting empirical field research and using statistical software packages
• Experience and competency working with decisionmakers in multilateral, low-income country governments and/or research institutions to identify promising academic research opportunities
• Experience translating complex material/research to broad, non-technical audiences
