Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Department of Economics at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), invites applications for a faculty position as Professor of Teaching. The search is open-rank and we welcome applicants at the Assistant (potential security of employment; analogous to pre-tenure) or Associate/Full (security of employment; analogous to tenure) ranks. The Lecturer with Potential/Security of Employment series requires, in addition to excellent teaching and service, that the candidate makes outstanding and recognized contributions to the development of his or her specific discipline and/or of pedagogy. This is a full-time faculty position designed for individuals who wish to focus their careers on the development and implementation of innovative teaching strategies, professional activities, and University and public service. Professors of Teaching are members of the University of California Academic Senate and have all the usual benefits of Senate membership, including eligibility to participate in UCI’s faculty housing program. An eight course load (240 contact hours) is expected per year on UCI’s quarter system, though the course load may be adjusted to account for administrative or other duties that the Professor of Teaching may assume. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in economics and must provide detailed evidence of teaching ability (student course-evaluation ratings and other evidence) along with three letters of recommendation that attest to effectiveness in the classroom. Only those applicants with demonstrably excellent teaching records will receive serious consideration. While several years of post-Ph.D. teaching experience are highly desirable, applications from new Ph.D.’s will be considered. Evidence of research productivity is also welcome and can strengthen an applicant’s case.

Completed applications containing a curriculum vita, reflective statement of teaching, and three letters of recommendation should be uploaded electronically via UC Irvine’s online application system, RECRUIT, located at: https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF05123. Given its commitment to encouraging diversity, UC Irvine requests a separate statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion be included with the application.

To receive fullest consideration, applications should be received by March 1, although the position will remain open until filled.

The University of California, Irvine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer advancing inclusive excellence. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, or other protected categories covered by the UC nondiscrimination policy. A recipient of an NSF ADVANCE award for gender equity, UCI is responsive to the needs of dual career couples, supports work-life balance through an array of family-friendly policies, and is dedicated to broadening participation in higher education.
