The Department of Economics invites applications for an endowed chair entitled the Jorge Paulo Lemann Chair in Brazilian Economy. This Chair will be a full-time tenured position at the rank of Full Professor within the Department of Economics. Jorge Lemann is an investment banker and philanthropist. He endowed this Chair in 2001 and it was held by Professor Werner Baer until he passed away in 2016.

Applicants should have a significant research interest in the Brazilian economy from either a macroeconomic or microeconomic perspective. For example, applicants could have a background in macroeconomics or international economics and have research interests in the Brazilian macroeconomy. Alternatively, applicants could have a background in applied microeconomics and have research interests in some aspect of microeconomic policy in Brazil.

The Department offers a Ph.D. degree, a professional Master’s degree (MSPE), and three undergraduate degrees (B.A. in Economics, B.S. in Econometrics and Quantitative Economics, and B.S. in Computer Science and Economics). The Ph.D., MSPE, and B.S. degrees are STEM degrees. For more information, see http://www.economics.illinois.edu.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Economics, or an equivalent degree. Applicants must have an outstanding research record and the ability to contribute effectively to the instruction and supervision of students in the department’s degree programs. Successful candidates are expected to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain an active and independent research program, and provide service to the Department, the University, and the Economics profession. The salary will be commensurate with the research record and other accomplishments. The target starting date is August 16, 2019.
