Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection (DCP) of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) seeks a Senior Economist. All experienced candidates with an interest in applied microeconomics are encouraged to apply. A background in banking or consumer finance research is not required.

DCP is focused on a wide variety of responsibilities to maintain stability and public confidence in the nation’s financial system. To that end, economists in DCP conduct research on topics that include consumer and household financial decision making, consumer financial product markets, community development, economic inclusion, consumer protection and fair lending.

Economists in DCP conduct research to inform discussion of regulatory policy initiatives; provide statistical analysis of examination data to help evaluate whether FDIC-supervised institutions are in compliance with consumer protection laws; and participate in the design and analysis of regularly conducted household- and bank-level national surveys. Senior DCP economists are expected to conduct independent research for presentation at professional conferences and publication in peer-reviewed academic journals.

DCP has an active consumer research seminar series and economists have access to a wide range of proprietary data. In addition, the FDIC holds an annual consumer research symposium that brings together academic researchers and researchers in government and think tanks, details of which may be found here: https://www.fdic.gov/news/conferences/consumersymposium.

The FDIC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applicants must be U.S. citizens
