Assistant Professor, Food and Behavioral Economics

Starting date: August 2019 or as negotiated.

Responsibilities: This is a nine-month, tenure-track position in agricultural economics and agribusiness with a 65% research and 35% teaching responsibility. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program in behavioral economics focusing on food and health. Pertinent research topics may include behavioral and experimental economics as applied to food choices and nutrition, obesity and other health issues, decision-making by food companies and agribusinesses, food and nutrition policies, and related areas. Penn State is home to the Laboratory for Economics Management and Auctions (LEMA), and interested faculty can join this cross-college research center. The successful applicant will be expected to secure external funding. Teaching expectations will be three courses per year, including at least two undergraduate courses in agribusiness management. The successful candidate is expected to mentor graduate students.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in applied or general economics, or a related field, is required. The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date. Applicants should demonstrate excellent quantitative and communication skills and the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams. An ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students is required. Salary: Competitive, commensurate with background and experience.
