Full Text of JOE Listing:

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) aims to recruit a research-oriented economist for a core faculty position at GU-Q. Core faculty positions are full-time positions designed to replicate the institutional commitment to academic freedom and professional opportunities associated with tenure-track appointments.

The nominal teaching load is 2-2 for core faculty. Junior colleagues are eligible to apply for a “junior research semester” free of teaching. Colleagues who earn senior core faculty status are eligible to apply for periodic research sabbaticals.

We seek applications from colleagues at all ranks in economic development, international economics, political economy, and related fields (e.g., energy, environmental, resource security, etc.). We are particularly interested in hearing from colleagues who want to establish research teams.

Applicants at advanced rank must have substantial research accomplishments and evidence of ambitious ongoing research agendas; entry-level applicants must have exceptional promise of future research productivity. All applicants must have outstanding teaching credentials.

Qatar offers a diverse, safe, and family-friendly environment. Compensation and expatriate benefits packages are extremely competitive. GU-Q provides generous research support and support for conference travel. Faculty members at GU-Q are eligible to apply for Qatar National Priorities Research Program grants from the Qatar National Research Fund for various research opportunities.

For more information on GU-Q, see https://www.qatar.georgetown.edu. For a glimpse of what it is like to teach and live in Qatar, see: https://youtu.be/HNoERrWln4k.

Interviews will be conducted at the Allied Social Sciences Associations (ASSA) meetings in Philadelphia from January 5-7, 2018; we will begin issuing interview invitations on December 8, 2017, and will continue to review applications and issue interview invitations until our interview slots are filled or the deadline of December 31, 2017 is reached. We will be happy to consider alternative arrangements for exceptional candidates who are unable to travel to Philadelphia.
