The Department of Economics at Northeastern University invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Chair at the rank of full professor, to begin July 1, 2018. The field within Economics is open, although applications are particularly encouraged from candidates with expertise in applied and policy areas. The Chair is responsible for managing department operations and providing effective leadership for faculty, staff and students. An important duty of the chair is to promote faculty recruitment, retention, and advancement; to foster faculty’s scholarly and teaching excellence. The Chair works to align department activities with the mission of the University, including its broad research emphasis in sustainability, security, health, and big data; to participate in the growing number of interdisciplinary initiatives within the University; to lead the department in revising and building its undergraduate and graduate programs; to promote faculty scholarship and junior faculty advancement; and to foster teaching excellence. The Chair should promote continued collegiality among department faculty engaged in different research areas and who take differing methodological approaches.

The successful candidate will have substantial administrative experience as well as an excellent and recognized record of scholarship and teaching. A PhD in Economics or equivalent is required. Candidates should have a commitment to diversity in the educational and workplace environment and to experiential and applied learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.
