PRDG Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Project on Resources, Development, and Governance (PRDG) is a network of social scientists, policymakers, non-governmental organizations and industry representatives dedicated to finding policies that promote welfare, peace, and accountability in resource-rich countries. Its goals are to seed new research projects involving social scientists and practitioners and promote evidence-based policymaking. It is supported by grants from the Hewlett Foundation, the Natural Resources Governance Institute, and UCLA’s Luskin Center for Innovation.

PRDG is soliciting applications for a two-year Post-Doctoral Fellowship beginning in Fall 2018 to support innovative research on programs addressing the economic and political challenges facing resource-rich countries. Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in Economics, Political Science, Public Policy or a related field in the last five years or have the Ph.D. expected in AY 2018-19; have ongoing or planned research projects on natural resources and development or governance in low or middle-income countries; and have strong training in quantitative research methods, particularly causal inference.

PRDG Fellows are expected to be in residence during the fellowship period and will receive applicable UCLA benefits. They will be based at UCLA’s Political Science Department and the Luskin School of Public Affairs, and supervised by Professor Michael Ross. The Fellow will also engage with the co-PIs based at UCLA, Graeme Blair and Darin Christensen.

In addition to conducting independent research and (optionally) develop joint research with the co-PIs, the Fellow will work up to 10 hours a week on PRDG projects that may include:
• Identifying and engaging with organizations implementing programs in this sector;
• Crafting PRDG’s research agenda, including drafting a white paper that reviews research on natural resources, governance, and development; and
• Helping draft and edit policy briefs based on PRDG research.
