The Department of Finance and Economics seeks to fill one or more tenure-track faculty position(s) in the field of Economics at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor levels beginning August 2018. Initial interviews will be conducted at the 2018 ASSA meetings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

All fields of specialization in Economics will be considered. Preference will be given to applicants with the ability to teach doctoral-level courses, participate actively on doctoral dissertation committees, and perform other duties typical for tenure track faculty in a research-oriented department. Expected research activity must result in publications in internationally recognized and refereed journals. Other responsibilities include routine departmental, college, and university service functions.

ABD applicants must be able to give strong assurance of completing the Ph.D. prior to August 2018. All applicants must demonstrate teaching experience at the undergraduate level, potential to successfully publish in high-quality journals, and effective written and oral communication skills.

Established in 1878, Mississippi State University is a comprehensive, Land Grant university designated as a Doctoral/Research Extensive institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. With an enrollment of over 21,000 full-time students, Mississippi State is the largest institution of higher learning in Mississippi.

The College of Business, established in 1915, is the oldest business school in Mississippi and one of the oldest in the South. Fully accredited by AACSB, the college has an enrollment of over 2,800 undergraduate students and 300 graduate students. The college employs approximately 70 full-time faculty members in four academic units: The Adkerson School of Accountancy; Department of Finance and Economics; Department of Marketing, Quantitative Analysis & Business Law; and the Department of Management & Information Systems.

The Department of Finance and Economics supports the missions of the College of Business and Mississippi State University by integrating the fields of finance and economics in order to (1) prepare and mentor students for successful academic and professional careers; (2) engage in high-quality scholarly activity which advances knowledge and supports the economic development of Mississippi; (3) recruit, develop, and retain nationally-recognized faculty; and (4) serve the university, state, region, and nation. The department is responsible for instruction leading to bachelor of business administration degrees (B.B.A) with majors in Business Economics and Finance as well as the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with a major in Economics for the College of Arts & Sciences. The department also sponsors minors in Business Economics, Finance, Risk Management and Insurance, and Real Estate Finance. Graduate programs offered by the department include the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Economics as well as the Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in both Applied Economics and Finance.
