Resources for the Future (RFF) invites applications for Fellows and Senior fellows in its Land, Water, and Nature Program. RFF is an independent, non-profit research institution in Washington, DC whose mission is to improve environmental, energy, and natural resource decisions through impartial economic research and policy engagement (see www.rff.org). The Land, Water, and Nature Program at RFF delivers research and solutions for cost-effectively managing key land, water, and marine resources that support a thriving economy and society, while ensuring healthy and productive natural systems and building resilience in a changing climate. Current fellows and senior fellows in the Program are engaged in research on issues related to conservation and ecosystem services; water availability, quality, and pricing; fisheries management and policy; invasive species policy; management of weather-related risks; climate adaptation and resilience; and the role of remote earth observations in policy. RFF is interested in hiring researchers with complementary interests and skills and appreciates individuals with flexibility to work on a broad range of issues, interest in working on research teams, and the desire to influence policy.

RFF is committed to scholarly excellence and policy application and offers an outstanding environment for academic publication and high-level communication of research to policy audiences.

Applications are welcome from both new PhDs as well as mid-career and senior applicants. For new PhDs, a completed dissertation by September 1, 2018 is required. For more senior candidates, qualifications include significant research and/or policy experience, a substantial publication record, and a well-developed research agenda. Key activities at all ranks include initiating and conducting high-quality research, leading projects, and actively participating in the dissemination of research results. Successful senior candidates should be recognized as experts in the academic and policy communities, be able to attract funding for themselves and others on the research staff, and have an abiding interest in seeing their research affect public policy.

RFF offers a competitive salary and benefits and a stimulating work environment. The expected start date for new PhDs is June-September 2018 and for mid-career and senior applicants the start date is negotiable.

All applicants should use RFF’s online application system: http://www.rff.org/about/careers. The required items for Fellows and Senior Fellow candidates are a letter of application indicating interest in the position, a curriculum vitae, and 1 to 3 research papers/publications (including a job market paper for new PhDs). For new PhDs, a PhD transcript (unofficial is acceptable) and at least 3 letters of reference must also be provided. For more senior candidates, only the names, affiliations, and contact information for at least three references are required.

All additional materials (e.g., job market paper, publications, reference list, etc.) should be uploaded using the online Resume and Cover Letter options. If you have difficulties uploading your additional materials, please email them directly to fellowhiring@rff.org. If you have trouble with the online application system, please try using a different browser.

For new PhDs, all materials should be submitted online by November 17, 2017. Initial interviews will be scheduled during the Allied Social Science Association (ASSA) January meetings for those attending. Applications for mid-career and senior positions will be accepted at any time and evaluated on an ongoing basis, but those mid-career and senior applicants wishing to interview at the ASSA meetings must have all materials submitted by the November 17, 2017 deadline.

Any questions should be sent by email to fellowhiring@rff.org.
