Teaching excellence, publication in refereed journals, and active university and community service are required for tenure and promotion.

We are an entrepreneurial group of teacher-mentor-scholars who interact more like a start-up than a traditional department. Candidates should demonstrate capacity for and commitment to collegial, interdisciplinary collaboration. The candidate must maintain a productive research program, which may consist of collaborative research across the University. Successful candidates will teach and develop curriculum in their fields, conducting classes for students at the principles through graduate levels. Candidates will participate in service through membership on department, college, and university committees, and through the academic advising of students.

The Department engages in applied economic research with local and statewide impact. All faculty are expected to be responsive to requests from local print and broadcast media and otherwise interact effectively with Silicon Valley communities.
