Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Department of Economics at Furman University invites applications for two open rank tenure-track positions to begin August 1, 2018. We encourage applications from candidates in any field of economics who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, student advising, and research in a liberal arts environment. For one of the two positions, we would value a health economist who would be excited to work with students and community partners in collaboration with the Institute for the Advancement of Community Health, a partnership between Furman University and the Greenville Health System. In addition to teaching courses in their areas of expertise, all department members contribute to the teaching of some core courses in economics (principles, statistics, econometrics, intermediate theory, and/or senior seminar). We are interested in hiring faculty members with diverse perspectives who will foster innovation in our curriculum and provide a rich and varied educational experience for our students. The teaching responsibility is five courses per academic year.

Furman University is a selective private liberal arts and sciences college committed to helping students develop intellectually, personally, and interpersonally and providing the practical skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly-changing world. Furman professors are exceptional teacher-scholars who mentor undergraduate students within a campus community that values and encourages diverse ideas and perspectives. Our recently-launched strategic vision, The Furman Advantage, promises students an individualized four-year pathway facilitated by a team of mentors and infused with a rich and varied set of high impact experiences outside the classroom that include undergraduate research, study away, internships, community-focused learning, and opportunities to engage across differences. Furman is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and staff. Domestic partners of employees are eligible for comprehensive benefits.

Furman is located in Greenville, South Carolina, which is one of the fastest growing cities in the Southeast and is ranked among “America’s Ten Best” by Forbes Magazine. The charming downtown features excellent restaurants, in-town parks, shops, museums, galleries, music venues, and theaters. The city also has excellent public and private schools and a vibrant international community. It is an ideal place to live and work.

Applications are due November 15, 2017. We will meet with interested and qualified candidates at the 2018 Allied Social Sciences Associations/American Economic Association (ASSA/AEA) annual meeting in Philadelphia, PA. Questions can be directed to the chair of the Department of Economics, Dr. Nathan Cook, at nathaniel.cook@furman.edu
