Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Joint Committee on Taxation (the "JCT") has openings for staff economists. The JCT is a nonpartisan professional staff, comprised of lawyers, economists, certified public accountants, and computer specialists, that provides Congress with unbiased analysis of tax legislation. The staff of the JCT works closely with the House Committee on Ways and Means and the Senate Committee on Finance and is involved in every aspect of the tax legislative process. For more information on the work of the JCT, see www.jct.gov.

The JCT is seeking to expand its staff in the following areas:

Economists to analyze both large and small data sets to formulate estimates of the Federal budget impact of proposed Federal tax legislation and to analyze the possible economic and administrative implications of proposed changes in Federal tax laws. Strong quantitative skills valuable.

Economists to assist in the development and use of macroeconomic models for the analysis of major tax legislation. The candidate must have experience with state-of-the-art general equilibrium models, and special consideration will be given to those who have specialized in fiscal policy and computational economics. This position is ideal for those with an interest in current tax policy debates and desire to work collaboratively.

These are exciting and challenging positions for economists who have an interest in tax policy. Your work will be reflected immediately in tax legislation considered by the Congress. You will work in an informal team environment with other staff economists, lawyers, and accountants in analyzing tax legislation, and you will have the opportunity to conduct independent research. Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and have a Ph.D. or equivalent, with training in public finance and taxation preferred. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
