The Faculty of Law and Economics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in cooperation with the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) seeks qualified candidates to fill the position at the rank of Assistant Professor (W1) in Economics at the earliest possible date.

We expect the candidates to have a strong interest in the field of empirical economics. Ideally, the focus should be on fiscal policy or public economics. A quantitative research approach and experience with state-of-the-art empirical methods are expected.

The Assistant Professor serves to deepen the collaboration between the Faculty of Law and Economics at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH). The IWH is one of the six economic research institutes of the Leibniz Association in Germany (www.iwh-halle.de). The institute focuses on research in finance, macroeconomics, structural change and productivity. The Assistant Professorship is based in the Department of Macroeconomics at the IWH, candidates should be interested in applying their research to macroeconomic policy questions.

The requirements for the position are: the completion of a PhD in Economics by the fall of 2018, the potential for successful publications in international journals, and ideally an existing network of international research collaborations. The candidate is expected to participate in the research activities of Faculty and IWH, likewise. It is expected that the candidate will teach in the Faculty’s Bachelor and Masters Programmes. While knowledge of German is desirable, it is not a requirement for the position.

The employee is assigned the status of a civil servant with limited tenure (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit). The contract will initially be limited to three years, and may be extended by a further three years given a positive interim evaluation.
