The Department of Economics at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the fall of 2018. Applicants should demonstrate potential for developing an active and innovative scholarly career in a liberal arts setting with teaching and research interests in the field of law and economics (JEL area K). As the College encourages and recognizes faculty research programs that lend themselves to collaborative engagement with its undergraduate students, preference will be given to candidates who are able to demonstrate a potential for collaborative research with undergraduates. In addition to start-up funds, this position will also provide annual access to an endowed fund to further support professional activity.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to making contributions to the life of the department, interdisciplinary teaching and inquiry, and to the inclusion of diverse perspectives in scholarship and teaching. We are particularly interested in applicants who will contribute to the department’s commitment to increasing access and opportunities for populations that are currently under-represented in the area of Economics. A Ph.D. in economics is required. Applicants who expect to complete their doctoral degrees prior to September 2018 will be fully considered.

The normal teaching load is six courses and four preparations per year. In addition to developing and offering elective courses in law and economics, the successful candidate will be expected to teach either intermediate microeconomic theory or statistics for economics as well as introductory courses in economics. There is also the opportunity to develop elective courses in the candidate’s other fields and to teach in the college’s many interdisciplinary programs.

1. A cover letter describing your interest in and qualifications for the position including how your current research and prior coursework fit within the field of law and economics (JEL area K);
2. A current curriculum vitae;
3. A writing sample;
4. A statement on teaching which includes your teaching interests, ideas about pedagogical approaches, and experience you may have had (about two pages);
5. A statement describing the research you propose to carry out as a new St. Olaf faculty member and its potential for undergraduate collaboration (two to three pages); and
6. The names and contact information for three professional references who can speak to your potential as a scholar and abilities in classroom teaching. (Recommendation letters will be solicited from references by the search committee after an initial round of screening.)
7. A transcript (official or unofficial) showing graduate coursework towards the Ph.D. in economics.
