Full Text of JOE Listing:

Purdue University's department of agricultural economics is seeking an applied economist for an academic year appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to develop and/or lead a nationally recognized research, engagement or teaching program in any area of agricultural economics that is directed towards farm-level decision making. Specific areas of interest that have substantial overlap with the department's areas of expertise include economic analysis of precision agricultural production technology, agricultural production sustainability, and risk. We are particularly interested in candidates who also bring strong quantitative analysis skills and experience working with layered data sets related to agricultural production. The candidate may teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses.

Within the department, this position is complementary to numerous tenure-track faculty searches upcoming in the next one to two years. Within the college, there is an initiative to hire six faculty over the next two years as part of a cluster hire to leverage existing strengths in digital agriculture. Digital agriculture has the potential to create a continuum from the sensing of data, to the handling and analysis of the data, ending with action on this information (then with feedback through a cycle) within the food system. Additionally, there will be many opportunities to collaborate across colleges within the university.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a Ph.D. in agricultural economics or economics, with expertise in microeconomic theory and quantitative methods applied to problems related to farm-level decision-making. This position requires a strong ability to communicate orally and in writing when working in the classroom or in public forums. The Ph.D. is
required by the start of the appointment. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience.
