The Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Beirut invites applications for the position of Chairperson of the Department of Economics starting August 15, 2018. We seek a senior scholar and academic leader with a strong vision to advance the department's research and teaching. The selected candidate will be appointed as a tenured faculty member in the Department of Economics.

The Department of Economics is in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. It consists of nine full-time faculty members. The department offers a BA degree in Economics, and MA degrees in Economics and Financial Economics.

The chairperson's primary responsibilities will be to promote and support the department's academic programs and the scholarly achievements of its faculty members. The chairperson should strive to be an effective leader with a strong commitment to shared governance. The duties of a department chairperson are described in the link below:

Applicants are expected to send a cover letter outlining their experience and sharing their vision and perspective for the future of the Department of Economics, a curriculum vitae, and names and addresses of three references. The applications deadline is November 15, 2017. The review of applications will begin thereafter and will continue until the position is filled. AUB representatives will be attending the 2018 ASSA Annual Meeting in January 2018 in Philadelphia.
