The Economics Department at Manchester is a research-oriented department committed to teaching excellence.
The department is large with expertise in a wide range of areas of Economics.

We are seeking to complement the department with at least one new Assistant Professor.

We welcome applications from colleagues working in any area in Economics/Econometrics.
The post is tenable from 1st August 2018.
The successful applicant will have some pastoral and administrative responsibilities and be committed to collegiality and academic integrity.

Job Description:
The principal duties of the person appointed are to:

• Pursue research in economics which is consistent with our strategy to achieve research excellence.
• Disseminate research results at domestic and international seminars/workshops/conferences, as appropriate, and produce high quality publications in the leading international journals in Economics and related fields, as appropriate to your research.
• Seek (possibly in conjunction with other members of Economics) external research funding to support and promote research activity.
• Undertake teaching at postgraduate and undergraduate level as required by the Head of Economics.
• Undertake administrative responsibilities as required by the Head of Economics.
• Supervise undergraduate and/or Masters dissertations.
• Contribute to the supervision of graduate research students working in economics and related areas.

Person Specification:
Essential:

• Possession, or near completion, of a PhD in Economics or related field
• For near, or recent, PhD candidates: a developing record of research with evidence of a clear potential to publish in leading peer-reviewed journals.
• For other candidates: commensurate with experience, a consistent record of high-quality research with publications in leading peer-reviewed journals.
• A strategy for future research in economics, or related field as appropriate to your research.
• Experience and record of, or evidence of a clear potential to deliver, undergraduate and/or postgraduate research-informed teaching.
• Ability, or potential, to supervise research students.
• Ability to pursue own teaching and research agenda and collaborate with others on research-led teaching and related activities, and to undertake administrative duties as required.
• Excellent presentational and interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

• Ability or potential to seek internal and external funding to support and promote teaching, research and related activities in economics.
• Experience of using a virtual learning environment to deliver teaching.
• Evidence of excellence in teaching and/or innovation in teaching at an institution of higher learning.
