Full Text of JOE Listing:

NBER seeks a full time research assistant to assist Professors Tomasz Piskorski from Columbia University and Amit Seru from Stanford University in conducting academic research. This is a pre-doctoral research program. The research assistant will be a full-time research staff member at NBER for 1 to 2 years and work on multiple projects simultaneously. He/she is also expected to maintain a thorough understanding of the substance of the research and to participate in every aspect of the process from idea generation to publication.

Programming tasks involve using Stata, Matlab, SAS, R, and Python to perform statistical analysis, maintaining data sets and databases, data gathering and cleaning, and preparing detailed documentation files.

Physical tasks involve assisting in the organization of research programs such as conferences, seminars and workshops, preparing presentations for teaching and research projects, and grading assignments or exams from faculty-taught courses.

This position provides an exciting opportunity to gain academic and business research experience with a special focus on fields such as economics, finance, sociology, statistics and mathematics and would be ideal preparation for a PhD program or other graduate study.
