Full Text of JOE Listing:

Rutgers University's Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, a unit of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), invites applications by a mid-career or senior health economist to lead the development of its program in health economics. Within the broad framework of the strategic plans of RBHS and the Institute for Health, the successful candidate will be free to develop a program of research in any of a number of possible fields of interest including, but not limited to, behavioral economics, economic and social determinants of health, analyses of provider behavior and healthcare markets, healthcare financing, predictive modeling, comparative effectiveness research, and evaluation of health policy and delivery system initiatives.

The incumbent must have advanced training at the doctoral level and experience in health economics with strong theoretical grounding and empirical skills to support the development of a rigorous program of research. A demonstrated record of successfully competing for research grants is essential. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed in the Institute for Health with tenure-track or tenured appointment within an appropriate Rutgers school or department where the faculty member will teach and/or mentor students. Salary and rank will be commensurate with academic achievements including funded research and scholarly publication record, as well as other relevant professional experience. Initial substantial support for establishing a strong program of research will be provided with the expectation that the research program will be increasingly supported by extramural funds over time.

The Institute for Health offers a rich collaborative, multidisciplinary environment for conducting health economics research. Institute faculty have expertise in economics, other social sciences, health policy, medicine, nursing, public health, global health, social gerontology, health services, and medical ethics. Several research centers with an extensive repository of big data and other data sources exist within the Institute including Center for State Health Policy; Center for the Study of Health Beliefs and Behavior; Center for Health Services Research on Pharmacotherapy, Chronic Disease Management and Outcomes; and Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science.
