The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology ( in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Lecturer. This position will be a nine-month, non-tenure-track position with a 70% teaching and 30% advising appointment but subject to change based on the teaching and advising needs in the department. In addition, there will be instructional and student-related activities expected during the summer as a separate appointment. The projected start date is January 2nd, 2017. The position is a two-year appointment subject to continuation based upon satisfactory progress, departmental need for services, and available funding.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness courses. Potential courses include Global Agriculture Issues, Agribusiness Marketing, Principles of Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Business and Economics Internship, and Agricultural Cooperatives. The incumbent will work closely with undergraduate students and assist in increasing retention and graduation rates, and work closely with the recruitment offices of the Colleges of Agriculture. The expected teaching load is approximately five courses per year. There will be additional responsibilities such as undergraduate student advising, advising student clubs and organizations, assisting faculty with collection and analysis of assessment data for program improvement, and mentoring students to enhance their professional and leadership skills.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include an earned M.S. from an accredited institution in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Applied Economics, or closely related disciplines by the expected position start date, professional experience.

The successful candidate also will have documented evidence of teaching and mentoring effectiveness, and collaboratively work with a diverse cadre of faculty, staff, and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong aptitude for undergraduate teaching and students’ success. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively create a dynamic and interactive learning environment. The incumbent must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desirable qualifications include: Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Applied Economics, or closely related disciplines; teaching experience in agricultural business and economics related courses; experience in agriculture business industry; familiarity with active learning pedagogies, experience developing lecture curricula; experience with recruiting and advising students; and experience working with student clubs and organizations.
