Full Text of JOE Listing:

We’re looking for exceptional researchers to propel our global quantitative strategies by turning promising ideas into live, productive trading models. At the heart of our firm, this role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with deeply talented scientists and technologists.

Using a data-driven approach, our researchers tackle exceedingly complex problems related to understanding financial markets. While sharing responsibility for the entire lifecycle of strategy development, they tend to specialize as part of small, nimble, cross-disciplinary teams. Successful researchers help create highly effective trading models by generating keen insights into the way markets function.

We have a long history of hiring and retaining outstanding researchers from a wide range of academic backgrounds. Many join us without prior experience in finance and initially rotate through several groups to learn about the assets and markets we focus on. Our research process resembles a scientific lab’s much more than a typical quant job’s.

PDT Partners has a stellar twenty-three-year track record and a reputation for excellence. We strive to be the best quantitative investment firm on the planet, not by assets under management, but by the quality of our products. As a place to work, PDT’s extremely high employee-retention rate speaks for itself. Our people are intellectually exceptional and our community is close-knit, down-to-earth, and diverse.

Responsibilities:

• Advance our quantitative strategies by contributing substantially to asset price forecasting, portfolio construction and trade planning, risk management, and/or trade execution.
• Originate and pursue independent research that meaningfully influences our trading models.
• Foster our distinctive culture by sharing knowledge, collaborating, and, over time, mentoring.

Experience:

• Entry-level researchers: a postdoctoral fellowship is highly valued.
• Experienced researchers: a professional background in academia, at a government or industrial lab, or in finance.
• Strong programming skills (C++, Matlab, Python).
• Demonstrated passion for understanding and modeling complicated systems.
• A history of working with (and enjoying) large, noisy data sets.

Education:

• PhD in economics, finance, math, statistics, operations research, computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or some other highly quantitative and analytical field.
