The Bank of Finland's Research Unit (RU) invites applications for the Visiting Scholars Programme. The Programme is designed to enhance the Bank's research excellence in the key areas of interest for the Bank, i.e. macroeconomics, financial stability and financial markets. Research projects are conducted at the Monetary Policy and Research department.

Practical arrangements

Timing:
Visiting Researchers are expected to start at any time between February 2017 and June 2017, subject to agreement between each individual researcher and RU.

Duration:
Research visits usually last between one week and three months. We expect Visiting Researchers to stay with the RU for the entire duration of their visit.

Applicants:
Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Economics or Finance. Priority will be given to new visitors.

Relationship with RU:
We encourage Visiting Researchers to participate fully in the research life of RU, for example by attending RU research seminars, seminars run by the Bank of Finland BOFIT Unit and other events related to research. We expect Visiting Researchers to present their own research in a seminar whilst they are visiting RU, and to submit a paper to our Discussion Paper Series.

Funding:
The salary is commensurate with the Visiting Researcher’s professional background, experience and the Bank of Finland wage scale. We also reimburse a round-trip economy class travel to Helsinki.

Computer facilities and desk space:
We provide the Visiting Researchers with a Bank of Finland login and email address, enabling them to use computer facilities at RU. We also provide office space as well as access to all RU facilities, including data, libraries and computer resources.

Accommodation:
We help in finding accommodation in Helsinki during the visit. We do not, however, cover accommodation expenses for the visitors.
