Position: Assistant Professor
Environmental / Natural Resource Economics
Tenure track, 9-month appointment

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Applied/Agricultural Economics or Economics, with a strong emphasis in environmental and/or natural resource economics. Outstanding oral and written communication skills are required. The successful candidate must be able to develop a nationally- and internationally-recognized research program in environmental and/or natural resource economics as evidenced by scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals. A willingness and ability to make significant contributions to interdisciplinary research efforts is also required.

Job Description: This position has a 75 percent research appointment and a 25 percent teaching appointment with both appointments focusing primarily on environmental and natural resource economics. The incumbent will be expected to bring strong quantitative skills to bear on environmental and natural resource issues. Responsibilities include: (1) development of a nationally- and internationally-recognized research program in environmental and/or natural resource economics, (2) providing high-quality undergraduate and/or graduate teaching in environmental and/or natural resource economics, and making significant contributions to the development and growth of our undergraduate Environmental Economics & Management (EEM) major, (3) advising of undergraduate students, particularly EEM majors (4) direction of graduate student theses, (5) development of interdisciplinary relationships with scientists in other departments, and (6) securing external research grants and contracts.

Starkville is a vibrant college town in northeast Mississippi, conveniently located 2-4.5 hours from the Gulf Coast and from many major cities including Birmingham, Memphis, New Orleans, and Atlanta. Recreational areas such as the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge, the Tombigbee National Forest, and Grenada Lake are nearby. Cost of living is approximately 14% lower than the national average, and the city hosts several events including the Cotton District Arts Festival, the Magnolia Independent Film Festival, and Bulldog Bash.
