The Department of Economics, Finance, and Legal Studies at The University of Alabama is seeking candidates to fill the position of Robert Hunt Cochrane/Alabama Bankers’ Endowed Chair of Banking. The chairholder is expected to maintain a nationally-recognized level of research scholarship in financial economics exhibited by publications in top-tier financial economic journals. The chairholder is also expected to provide leadership in the Culverhouse College of Commerce and The University of Alabama by working closely with graduate students and other faculty members in the department and college and by teaching courses at the undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral level in the areas of banking, potentially including courses in bank management, financial institutions and markets, and money and capital markets.

Successful candidates must hold an earned doctorate in finance, economics, or a closely related field and have a research and teaching record consistent with a tenured associate or full professor at a research university. The appointment can be at either the associate or full professor level, depending on the candidate’s experience and record. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications, including research and travel support and a reduced teaching load.

The Department of Economics, Finance, and Legal Studies offers degrees at the undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. levels. The department offers various undergraduate specializations while the Masters programs include a full-time MBA (including a rapidly growing STEM path to the MBA), a weekend MBA program for executives, and a one-year MSF. The department provides an excellent research environment including generous travel support, an active seminar series, and Ph.D. graduate student research assistants.
