The Innovation, Knowledge and Networks (INK) program in the Survey Research Center (SRC) of the Institute for Social Research (ISR) at the University of Michigan seeks applications for a tenure track Research Assistant Professor.

We seek applicants for a research assistant professor position to work in the Institute for Research on Innovation and Science (IRIS). IRIS is a national consortium of universities that share data with core faculty at Michigan. The IRIS data repository collects, protects, and makes available for research use administrative data on the process, products, social and economic impacts of research conducted on member university campuses. IRIS is housed in INK, which conducts research on the relationship between evolving social networks and knowledge-intensive, innovative work and organizations using large-scale data sets and computational social science methods.

The Research Assistant Professor will be responsible for participating in and aiding in the strategic development of a robust grant funded research program aligned with the core concerns of INK and IRIS. Initially the Research Assistant Professor will collaborate with the team of Ph.D. level investigators on a variety of projects. The primary immediate focus will involve work on a newly funded, 4-year National Science Foundation supported project that uses IRIS data in concert with restricted Census Bureau data (from the Longitudinal Business Database (LBD) and Longitudinal Employer Household Dynamics (LEHD) database) to examine the conditions of training and career outcomes of undergraduate and master’s level students involved in sponsored project research. The Research Assistant Professor will work to develop independent and collaborative research programs to expand the reach and quality of INK and IRIS efforts and will be expected to publish high quality research in relevant disciplinary and interdisciplinary venues. This position does not include formal teaching responsibilities.

Job Qualifications: Requirements for the position are a Ph.D. in Economics, Sociology, Public Policy, Education, Management, Information Science or a related field, strong data analytic and statistical skills and methods using large data sets, experience with restricted and administrative data, familiarity with relevant software and programming tools such as SAS, Stata, Python and/or R and strong writing skills. Experience with interdisciplinary collaborations and familiarity with U.S. Census Bureau (or similar) restricted data procedures are a plus as is familiarity with social network methods.
