Full Text of JOE Listing:

The School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland seeks to hire up to three tenure-track faculty members at the rank of assistant professor, to start in the 2017/2018 academic year. Successful candidates should be able to teach one or more core courses in the School’s Master’s in Public Policy (M.P.P) program and in the School’s pending undergraduate major in Public Policy. The School has particular needs for faculty to teach courses in economic analysis, quantitative methods, and issues related to governance, in addition to teaching courses in one or more specialized areas. It is important that applicants demonstrate the capacity to establish a research agenda that will lead to scholarly publications and the building of a record that will warrant promotion and tenure. We would welcome applicants across a number of different research specializations. Areas of active research interest in the school include: international security; international development; environment, energy and climate policy; social policy; philanthropy/nonprofit management; public management; and public finance and budgeting. Applicants who would enhance the diversity of the school, including women and minorities, are especially encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications: Those applying should have an earned doctorate (or expect to receive the doctorate by the end of the 2016/17 academic year) in a relevant discipline, including public policy, public administration, economics, or political science. We are particularly interested in candidates who have already shown the capacity to do research resulting in peer-reviewed publications.

Application materials should include a letter of interest describing the candidate’s qualifications, a curriculum vitae, contact information for at least three references, and a recent publication or writing sample.

To apply: Visit http://jobs.umd.edu, locate the position announcement or visit https://ejobs.umd.edu/postings/44487 and apply online. Application materials sent outside of the online system will not be accepted. Questions concerning the application process may be addressed to Katharine Zang, at kzang@umd.edu. Review of applications will commence on October 1, but positions will remain open until filled. Since there are multiple positions to be filled, the review period is likely to extend well beyond October, and prospective applicants are urged to contact the search chair with any questions concerning the progress of the search.
