Full Text of JOE Listing:

The W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research is seeking an individual with substantial experience and expertise for an opportunity as a Senior Economist. Since 1932, the Upjohn Institute has functioned as one of the world’s leading independent labor economics research organizations, researching the causes and effects of unemployment and devising ways and means of alleviating unemployment. The Institute has an outstanding research staff, and it houses the administrative arm of the local workforce development programs. The combination of research and operations and the Institute’s endowment offers a rich environment to conduct policy-relevant research.

As a Senior Economist, you will design and conduct research on topics of your choosing within the Institute’s mission of conducting research related to labor market structure, dynamics and policies. With the Institute’s interest in policy-relevant research, you are also expected to seek funding from government agencies, non-profits, or foundations in order to become more directly engaged in helping to find solutions to practical problems. You will conduct research suitable for publication by the Institute and in peer-reviewed journals, as well as make presentations for scholarly conferences. The Institute is seeking candidates who have demonstrated strong analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills for both academic and lay audiences, and a strong interest in addressing policy-relevant issues.

This position requires a Ph.D. in economics or related field and at least five years of experiencing conducting research consistent with the Institute’s objectives.

The Institute offers a competitive salary and generous benefit package.
