The Department of Economics and the University of Connecticut continue a momentum of unprecedented growth as evidenced by significantly increased research expenditures, and a 29-year state funded $3.5B initiative to enhance the physical infrastructure as well as research and teaching activities. UConn is ranked among the top 20 U.S. public universities, and a recent citation-based ranking of economics departments ranks UConn among the top 50 programs in the United States. In response to transformative new partnerships with industry and a significant investment in STEM infrastructure and education at UConn, the University has successfully recruited more than 450 faculty over the past four years. We are pleased to continue these investments by inviting applications for a Visiting Professorship in any field or rank, with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2016.

This position would be ideal for a new Ph.D. who is looking for the opportunity to teach at a Research 1 institution in a position with substantial time available for research, or for an established faculty member on leave from their current institution for one year. The position may be reappointed to a second year, and we hope to make that decision prior to the primary economics job market next year.

The successful candidate will be expected to work towards developing a nationally and internationally competitive research program through scholarly presentations and publications. In the area of teaching, successful candidates will share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate level, be innovative in meeting the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests, mentor graduate students in research and professional development, and endeavor to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups. Specifically, the teaching load is 1-2 where the fall course will be a 150 student section of a general interest course for non-majors and the two courses in the spring will be 70 student sections of the same undergraduate, upper-division field course. The actual courses taught will be negotiated between the candidate and the department head. The department will provide grading support, and there are no service expectations.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates for this position must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in Economics or related field by August 2016 (equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable), have demonstrated excellence in scholarly research, and have the ability to teach undergraduate economics courses to a diverse population of students.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications for this position include complementarities with current faculty strengths, opportunities for research collaboration, teaching experience, and the ability to contribute through research, teaching experience, and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.

Appointment Terms: This is a full-time, 9-month, visiting faculty position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2016. The salary is approximately $50,000 per year.
