Full Text of JOE Listing:
The California Department of Finance serves as the Governor’s chief fiscal policy advisor, promotes responsible resource allocation through the state’s annual financial plan, and ensures the financial integrity of the state. The Economic Research Unit generates the state forecast that underpins the Governor’s Budget, provides analysis of relevant policy topics, and reviews assessments of major regulations impacts. The Principal Regulatory Economist is expected to take primary responsibility for managing the review program for major regulations impacts, and assist in the analysis of relevant policy topics as needed.
Qualifications: A PhD or master’s in economics or related field, at least five years’ experience in assessing economic policy impacts, and demonstrated ability to communicate complex issues to the general public. The ability to quickly absorb new material and explain economic concepts to a wide variety of stakeholders is crucial. Prior experience in managing staff and modeling regulatory impacts are desirable.
