The Department of Economics at Northeastern University invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Chair at the rank of full professor, to begin July 1, 2016. The field within Economics is open, although applications are particularly encouraged from candidates with expertise in applied areas. The Department is building strengths in Industrial Organization, Labor, Development, Gender and Health. The Chair is responsible for managing department operations and providing effective leadership for faculty, staff and students. The Chair works to align the department’s activities with the research mission of the College of Social Sciences and the University, including its broad research emphasis in sustainability, security, health, and big data; to participate in the growing number of interdisciplinary initiatives within the University; to lead the department in revising and building its undergraduate and graduate programs; to promote faculty scholarship; to foster teaching excellence; to facilitate department-based fundraising; and to promote continued collegiality among department faculty.

The successful candidate will have substantial administrative experience as well as an excellent and recognized record of scholarship and teaching. A PhD in Economics or equivalent is required. Candidates should have a commitment to diversity in the educational and workplace environment and to experiential and applied learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.

The Department of Economics, which resides in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, includes fourteen full time tenured and tenure-track faculty members, eight full time teaching faculty, and three staff members who serve approximately 650 undergraduate majors and 60 graduate students in the MA and Ph.D. programs.
