The Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics and the USC School of Pharmacy Department of Pharmaceutical and Health Economics invites applications for the position of tenure track faculty at all ranks to conduct research and teach in health economics and policy.
The Schaeffer Center is a collaboration between the School of Pharmacy and the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California (USC). The Center seeks to achieve policy impact, perform transformative research, attain organizational excellence, and provide interdisciplinary education. The Schaeffer Center occupies 2 floors totaling 10,000 square feet in the Verna and Peter Dauterive Hall (VPD), a new building on the USC campus designed to promote collaborative research in the social sciences. Since its inception, the Schaeffer Center has reached $66.50 million in funding, of which $46 million comes from NIH and CMMI. The Schaeffer Center is unique in that its researchers, working across disciplines, will achieve a new level of collaboration necessary for the rigorous, objective study of enduring and emerging health care issues facing the US and international communities. The Center encompasses 29 faculty members affiliated with different schools at USC, including: Letters, Arts and Sciences, Gerontology, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Policy, and Social Work. Additionally, there are 22 staff members that provide support for research, administrative, and external affairs activities.
Our research focuses on four specific areas, ultimately aiming to:
- Improve the performance of health care markets;
- Increase value in health care delivery;
- Improve health outcomes for an aging society;
- Foster better pharmaceutical policy and regulation
A distinctive capability of the Schaeffer Center is the impact of the Center's research on policy. To achieve that end, the Center pursues an aggressive dissemination strategy, which includes the creation of multiple dissemination tools and their use in targeted outreach. The Center's dissemination tools include academic publication in policy-relevant journals, monthly e-newsletters, annual reports, research issue briefs and a robust online presence. These tools enable researchers to clearly communicate their findings to key policymakers in the public and private sectors as well as to members of the media.
