The Department of Global Health in The Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University is recruiting a tenured or tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor (12 month appointment) with expertise in health economics, with a focus on applied global health economics research, teaching and practice. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

The Milken Institute School of Public Health has a diverse and growing faculty, with a $40 million research portfolio. As the only school of public health in the nation’s capital, faculty and students have a unique opportunity to work closely with government agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the US Department of Agriculture, United States Agency for International Development, and the Food and Drug Administration, as well as the numerous non-governmental and international organizations that are headquartered in DC such as the World Bank and International Food Policy Research Institute, and many others.

The Department of Global Health has faculty with expertise in health communications, design, monitoring and evaluation of global health programs, nutrition, infectious disease epidemiology and control, maternal and child health, environmental health, medical anthropology, medical sociology, demography, and economics. The Department offers both an MPH and a DrPH, and there are opportunities to work with doctoral students both in the School, as well as in the Department of Economics.

Primary responsibilities for the position include an active role in global health economics research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate will bring or develop a successful externally funded research portfolio and devote at least 50% effort to this research, and 50% to teaching and mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students. It is expected that the successful applicant will conduct applied global field research and provide comprehensive health economics grant support to other faculty.

Basic qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in economics or an allied field such as public policy or health economics in a field related to global public health including economics, public policy, public health, or medicine. ABDs will be considered but must complete all requirements for the PhD no later than the date of appointment. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of research including a track record of, or demonstrated potential to obtain, external funding, as well as a history of practice in global health economics.
