The Employment Research and Program Development Staff and the National Longitudinal Surveys have openings for Ph.D. economists. Duties are divided equally between (1) self-directed research that results in publications in refereed economics journals, and (2) activities that enhance the quality and usefulness of BLS programs and data. These activities involve a range of BLS data, such as the National Longitudinal Surveys, Current Population Survey, the Current Employment Statistics survey of establishments, the Longitudinal Establishment Database and other establishment data. The ideal candidate has a solid background in labor economics, strong econometric skills, demonstrated research potential, superior writing skills, the ability to analyze large microdata files, and familiarity with survey design. The starting salary depends on experience and research accomplishments. We will be attending the ASSA meetings.
