The nonprofit Urban Institute is dedicated to elevating the debate on social and economic policy. Our objective research helps expand opportunities for all, reduce hardship among the most vulnerable, and strengthen the effectiveness of the public sector. We offer a work environment which is informal, flexible and collegial. The Urban Institute provides excellent benefits and competitive salaries. We currently have opportunities for Research Associates in our research centers. All positions have responsibilities that include conducting empirical studies, developing economic models, and writing and presenting reports orally to academic and policy audiences in regards to policy research related to poverty dynamics, employment and training, work/family issues, labor markets, retirement, tax policy, housing, community and economic development, immigration, demography, public health, education, child welfare, criminal justice and international activities. Positions require a PhD or equivalent in economics, public policy, or related field. All require strong quantitative skills, experience using micro-level databases and excellent written and oral communication skills.
