George Mason University (Mason), Virginia’s largest public research institution, invites applications and nominations for the position of founding Dean, School of Policy, Government and International Affairs (SPGIA). Created in 2014 by the merger of the School of Public Policy and the Department of Public and International Affairs, SPGIA prepares undergraduate and graduate students to be leaders who advance the public good in the private, public and non-profit sectors. In this context, SPGIA seeks an entrepreneurial, visionary founding Dean to provide leadership in building the School and to advance its national and international reputation.

Ranked among the top 10 “Up-and-Coming” national universities by U.S. News and World Report, Mason stands at the doorstep of the Washington, DC metropolitan area, with unsurpassed geographical access to the White House, U.S. Capitol, federal agencies, international organizations and major corporations.

Interested candidates from academia will have credentials for appointment at Full Professor level, including a terminal degree and a record of success in research. Degree requirements for candidates from outside academia are more flexible. Such non-traditional candidates will have deep professional experience, with national and/or international stature.
