Responsibilities:
The Chair will be on a 12-month renewable appointment in a tenure track position. The successful candidate will usually teach one course per semester and conduct application-oriented research. However, the emphasis will be to undertake activities that promote the Free Enterprise System. Past chair holders have developed curricula to provide training for teachers of business, and activities of this nature should continue. An added duty is to encourage entrepreneurial activities to spur rural economic development and jobs in West Tennessee via training, mentorship, and partnerships. Such development could focus on innovation, agribusiness, technology-based enterprises, and/or international trade initiatives in support of the Port of Cates Landing development in Northwest Tennessee on the Mississippi River as well as the UTM Regional Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Center, regional chambers of commerce, the Tennessee Small Business Development Center, the Northwest Tennessee Entrepreneur Center, future Interstate 69, and Discovery Park of America.

Qualifications:
Terminal degree in a business administration field or in economics meeting AACSB and SACS accreditation guidelines, and a demonstrated ability to form successful partnerships with businesses, government organizations, and educational institutions. The candidate must be a free enterprise-oriented educator with a vision as to how to utilize this position in specific ways to address the broad responsibilities within the goal of promoting free enterprise. The successful candidate must qualify for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level. An entrepreneurial perspective with success in program development is desired. Progressive work experience in both academic and non-academic settings and experience working with development and/or economics education organizations such as the Council on Economic Education are a plus.
