At Giant Oak, we apply social science to big data environments to identify illicit actions, actors and networks. Our goal is to do our part to make the world a better, freer, and more secure place.

Giant Oak has openings for social scientists with a passion for exploring cutting edge approaches to national security challenges that range from financial fraud to human trafficking. Candidates must have a demonstrated proficiency in quantitative social science methods and a PhD in economics or a related discipline (e.g., statistics, finance, computer science, operations research, or political science).

Applicants must be eligible for a U.S. Security Clearance. Ideal applicant will be a U.S. citizen with an active security clearance and the ability to gain and hold a SCI security clearance. Applicants without active clearances will be considered.

Required Qualifications:

-- Ph.D. in a relevant social science discipline (Economics, Political Science, or Sociology) or Masters in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics) and work experience in a data-intensive analytical environment.

Desired Qualifications (One or More of the Following, or Similar Competencies):

-- Experience with one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, C++, Python)
-- Experience with large-scale data manipulation, analytic tools, and data visualization
-- Developing and applying social network or other graph theoretic analyses as models of social phenomena
-- Developing and utilizing machine learning techniques for big data analytics
-- Experience with statistical methods such as regression-based causal inference, k-means or spectral clustering, support vector machines, random forests, and classification trees
-- Experience with distributed and/or graph databases (Cassandra, HBase, Titan, etc.)
