Full Text of JOE Listing:

The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) anticipates filling multiple Ph.D. level economist positions in the Research Branch of the Balance of Payments Division during 2016. BEA’s mission as a leader in the development of new and innovative approaches to economic measurement is to strengthen our understanding of the U.S. economy by improving GDP and other national, regional, industry, and international accounts data.

Work in the international area involves research and analysis on international finance and investment, trade in goods and services, and the operations of multinational enterprises. A successful candidate will conduct independent research on topics of importance to BEA’s mission and will be expected to publish that research in professional journals as well as present at conferences. We will consider candidates conducting research in any field, although those who have demonstrated experience with empirical research involving international trade or finance or using large data sets are preferred.

BEA will interview the candidates at the ASSA meeting in San Francisco. Starting salaries range from $63,722 to $139,523 per year, depending on experience and education.
