Areas/Skills of Interest: General Financial Markets, Financial Institutions and Services, Risk Management, Econometric Methods and Modeling

The OCC’s Policy Analysis Division (PAD), located in Washington D.C., has openings for financial economists and senior financial economists. The OCC charters, regulates, and supervises all national banks, federal branches and agencies of foreign banks, and federal savings associations. Financial economists in PAD use strong theoretical, analytical and quantitative skills to identify and analyze key trends in bank performance, financial markets, laws and regulations relevant to the development and implementation of agency policy and that enhance supervision by the OCC. This work can be longer-term research projects as well as short-term analyses used to inform senior management or various internal and external audiences such as Congress and the GAO. Division economists also participate on inter-divisional and interagency working groups and conduct the economic impact analyses required by various rulemakings. Economists are encouraged to attend and present their work at internal seminars, professional conferences and publish in professional journals.

Successful candidates should have an interest in working on important financial market and regulatory issues. They will also have the demonstrated ability to conduct empirical analyses of complex financial and regulatory issues using sophisticated quantitative skills. They will also possess the ability to effectively communicate the results of their analyses in written form to a wide variety of audiences, including non-economists.
