We welcome applications from scholars who have earned doctorates in economics, public policy, health policy, or related fields. Areas of research interest include but are not limited to: insurance markets (Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance), the Affordable Care Act and other health care reforms, health care costs and quality, health outcomes and behaviors, regional variation, pharmaceuticals, health technologies, the industrial organization of the health care system, and health care labor markets. We invite applications for both tenured and tenure track positions. Senior candidates must have a distinguished academic record suitable for a tenured appointment. Candidates for tenure-track positions are expected to have completed their doctoral degrees by August 1, 2016. Built upon the strong foundation of one of the nation's top public universities, the Batten School combines rigorous training in policy analysis with a unique emphasis on the acquisition of leadership skills. The core faculty includes economists, political scientists, and psychologists, enriched by professors of practice who bring real-world policymaking expertise to the classroom. The School currently offers the two-year MPP degree, as well as an accelerated MPP program and an undergraduate major in public policy and leadership. The School also offers dual degree programs with the School of Medicine (MPP/ MPH), Darden School of Business (MPP/ MBA), and the School of Law (MPP/ JD). The successful candidate would have the potential for joint appointments with other academic units at U.Va.
