The Inter-American Development Bank, the largest and leading source of financing for regional development in Latin America and the Caribbean, is seeking highly qualified Economists to work in the Integration and Trade Sector. Candidates must have proven research experience in specialized trade and economic integration issues, in particular in areas such as trade-related labor market dynamics, trade finance, transport costs and trade facilitation; foreign investment and financial market integration. He/she will be part of a team with a mission to influence regional policies and IDB loan and technical assistance programs in these areas.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare policy papers, research reports and analytical studies and their dissemination through publications in professional journals and participation in external conferences
• Contribute to the coordination of research networks for disseminating research findings, promoting cooperative research initiatives, and discussing policy issues within and outside the Bank;
• Contribute to the analysis of issues related to trade and integration policies and institutions, make policy recommendations and provide advice on technical discussions related at the regional, hemispheric, and multilateral levels.
• Contribute to the Bank's country and regional policy dialogues on trade and regional economic integration issues and provide technical support to governments in trade and integration related matters.
• Provide technical support in the preparation and execution of Bank's portfolio of financial and non-financial products under responsibility of the Integration and Trade Sector.
• Represent the Bank in official meetings and conferences on trade and integration issues, including activities organized jointly with INTAL (Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean).

Qualifications:

• Education: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Economics or equivalent from an internationally recognized university.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience relative to the duties and responsibilities of the position and a research publication record relevant to Latin America and the Caribbean is desirable. Policy making experience, versatility and flexibility to work in groups are valuable assets.
• Sector Knowledge: Relevant sector knowledge and research experience on trade-related labor market dynamics, trade finance, transport costs and trade facilitation; foreign investment and financial market integration.
• Language: Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish.
