The School of Public Health, University of Alberta is inviting applications for a tenure-track position in health economics or health services research. The appointments will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level and commence July 1, 2016. The successful candidate will be nominated as a Canada Research Chair at the Tier 2 level (http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca).

The nominee will (a) have a PhD in health economics or health services research with a focus on health technology assessment or comparative effectiveness research; (b) have demonstrated the potential to achieve international recognition in his/her field in the next five years; (c) have the potential to attract, develop and retain excellent trainees, master’s and doctoral students and future researchers; and (d) be proposing an innovative research program. In addition, the successful nominee will have a demonstrated commitment to the integration of theoretical and empirical findings with public health policies, services, and practices outside academia.

Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars. Nominees must have less than 10 years of experience as an active researcher in their field at the time of nomination (April 2016). Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc., may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. The School of Public Health (http://uofa.ualberta.ca/public-health) is Canada’s first stand-alone faculty devoted to public health, with 40 primary faculty members and over 250 graduate students. The School offers a collegial environment and opportunities for collaboration with specialists in health economics, health policy, health technology assessment, outcomes research, epidemiology, and biostatistics. Members of the School benefit from interdisciplinary connections with faculty members from the Department of Economics and the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physical Education and Recreation, and Agriculture, Life, and Environmental Sciences.
