Full Text of JOE Listing:

Principal Duties: The Department of Agricultural Economics is seeking an outstanding individual to develop a nationally recognized program in international agricultural trade and global sustainability. Feeding a growing, increasingly affluent global population while improving environmental quality presents a major challenge for the agricultural sector. The successful candidate will pursue research aimed at understanding how ongoing changes in technology, climate, demography and economy interact through international agricultural markets, thereby shaping both local and global economic and environmental outcomes. Applicants will be expected to tap into the growing availability of geospatial data at local, national and global scales in order to bridge disciplinary boundaries and inform science-based sustainability strategies and policies. This academic year appointment links two signature areas of strength at Purdue: International Trade and Energy/Natural Resource Economics. Excellent collaboration opportunities exist with the Center for Global Trade Analysis (GTAP), spatial economics undertaken by the Department’s SHAPE group, the international trade group in Economics, Purdue’s Global Sustainability Institute, as well as other interdisciplinary research groups. The successful applicant will demonstrate potential for leveraging worldwide interest in sustainability by major foundations, governments and inter-governmental organizations, in order to contribute to external grant funding to support their research. The Department has a reputation for excellence in teaching and the successful candidate will contribute to this mission at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, working closely with faculty and graduate students to advance knowledge in the areas of international agricultural trade and global sustainability.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a Ph.D. in agricultural and applied economics, economics or another closely related field, along with expertise in economic theory and quantitative methods as well as evidence of program interests in problems related to international agricultural trade and the environment. This position requires a strong ability to communicate orally and in writing and the skill to effectively communicate research findings in public forums as well as in the classroom. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience.

The College: The Department is an integral part of the College of Agriculture, one of the world’s leading colleges of agricultural, food, life, and natural resource sciences and ranked number 5 globally in the 2015 QS World University Rankings. The College has 11 academic departments and includes 330 faculty, 2710 undergraduate students, and 685 graduate students.
