The University of California, Department of Economics invites applications for an open rank faculty appointment in development economics. Responsibilities include developing a strong research program and teaching/advising undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants should have an established record of outstanding research accomplishment; they will also be expected to guide the research of doctoral students, to be committed to a continuing, state-of-the-art research program, to provide leadership in the department, and to develop collaborative relationships with other units on campus, such as the new Schools of Medicine and of Public Policy. Senior applicants must have a Ph.D. in Economics or related field at the time of application. Junior applicants must be ABD or have met the requirements for the Ph.D. in Economics or related fields by the time of appointment; July 1, 2016. Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.
